Top 10 Favourite Albums of 2018

Hi everyone 😃

Hope you've all had a fantastic holiday season and didn't get too drunk celebrating the start of 2019! 😝
Some really great albums came out in 2018 and I'd like to share my 10 favourites of the year with you. Yes... I know I'm late to this, but nevermind! 💁

Tell me what your favourite albums of the year were and maybe this list will encourage you to listen to some albums you may have missed.

10. KOD by J. Cole

Cole doing what he does best, conscious
 hip hop.
Cole tackles themes of addiction and his production style takes on a trap influence.

Favourite Tracks: KOD, Kevin's Heart, 1985 (Intro to The Fall Off)

9. Hunter by Anna Calvi
Anna's best album to date in my opinion.
A powerful record exploring themes of gender that proves rock music is still very much alive

Favourite Tracks: Alpha, As A Man, Away.

8. Tranquillity Base Hotel + Casino by Arctic Monkeys

An album that's truly divided fans and is like no other album in the band's discography
A Bowie/Gainsbourg inspired concept record about a hotel on the moon that features the band's most experimental and imaginative songs.

Favourite Tracks: One Point Perspective, Star Treatment, The Ultracheese

7. Be The Cowboy by Mitski
A late discovery for me, but still a great one.
Probably the most relatable album on this list... enough said 😳

Favourite Tracks: Nobody, Washing Machine Heart, Geyser

6. Oil of Every Pearl's Un-Insides by SOPHIE

I HAVE NEVER HEARD MUSIC LIKE THIS BEFORE!
NOBODY IS MAKING MUSIC LIKE THIS!!
SOPHIE IS THE FUTURE OF MUSIC!!!

Favourite Tracks: Immaterial, Ponyboy, Faceshopping

5. Bloom by Troye Sivan

A brilliant dancepop record celebrating love, sexuality and self expression

Also features some of the best pop songs released all year, our Troye boy is killing it! 👌

Favourite tracks: My, My My!, Bloom, Dance to This

4. American Utopia by David Byrne
David Byrne doing what David Byrne does best...being the one, the only. David Byrne
P.S. The tour was AMAZING!!!!

Favourite Tracks: Gasoline and Dirty Sheets. Here, Every Day Is A Miracle

3. Honey by Robyn
The fabulous queen honey bee is back with an electropop record inspired heavily by house and disco that's still uniquely Robyn.

Favourite tracks: Honey, Ever Again, Send to Robin Immediately

2. MassEducation by St. Vincent
I'm cheating here slightly as the original version of the album (Masseduction) took the number 1 spot on my 'Favourite Albums of 2017' list, but MassEducation is a beautifully stripped back version of an incredible album that I'm sure will resonate with me throughout the rest of my life.

Favourite Tracks: Saviour, Los Ageless, Hang On Me

1. Dirty Computer by Janelle Monae
A perfectly crafted pop record that has such an important message, tackling a variety of genres, proving that Janelle Monae is a legend.
The "Emotion picture" that accompanies this album is also highly recommend 💛

Favourite Tracks: Screwed, Pynk, Make Me Feel, So Afraid

And there you have it, my favourite albums of 2018! I'd love to check out your favourites and I'm excited to hear the music that 2019 has in store for us... and hopefully, this year, I'll release some of my own 😉🤞
